Looking down the rails you see what the train wheels see for thousands of miles. These tracks handle several cargo trains daily that keep the US economy rolling.

New Terminal D at DFW

The new International Terminal (Terminal D at DFW Airport includes this hotel (Grand Hyatt) and many new food and shopping options. It will make the DFW area a leader in International destinations moving forward. American Airlines just announced their new service from DFW to Beijing. The world is getting smaller daily.

Hanging Cows and Cowboys

In an earlier posting I had a picture of the inside of the new W Hotel in Dallas. Some of you commented on the drapes being cowboys and cows. I went back to take a close up to show you that you were correct. These mini statues make up the window coverings.

Contrasting Building Styles

Skyscrapers in Black and White always do the trick. The contrasting building styles gives an idea of the architecture downtown.

Ball of Twine

This interesting new statue downtown seems to just be a large ball of twine. You make up your own mind but I am not sure this should be called art.

Urban Art

The city of Dallas installed pieces of concrete on the East side of Dallas and allowed artists to come in and paint on them. You can see that they sit at the foot of downtown and give the city some life from this angle.

Modern Art

One of many sculptures that line the hallways of Northpark Mall just north of downtown Dallas. I love the way that Black and white shots make you think about what color this steel piece really is???

Mini Cactus

I was walking through the local nursery the other day and cam upon these mini red cactus. Very delicate and cool.

Modern Electricity

Unfortunately we have many power lines that run thru Dallas like these. They are our veins to power and light but I wish there was a way to bury them.

Original El Fenix

In the DFW area we have a Mexican restaurant chain named El Fenix. This is the logo that was chosen at the companies first restaurant in downtown Dallas.

Drought

Texas is known for it's hot weather but we are in the middle of some extreme heat. The entire US is shrouded in a heat wave and drought is imminent in many locations. No different here in Dallas. I saw this dried soil yesterday and thought it would show the current conditions.

Sunflowers in the Field

Flowers in Texas are a barometer of what season it is. Bluebonnets and Indian Paint Brushes are the spring flower while the Sunflower shown here is prevalent in Summer.

Hispanic Market

Hernandez Finer Foods located downtown handles all brands of Hispanic food products. It is a great place to find that special chili pepper of home made tortillas.

Copper Violins

This is a pretty cool wall statue at the entrance of this Oak Lawn building. The repetition of the violins is interesting because this building and area have nothing to do with music!!!!

Victory

If you aren't familiar with Dallas this is your opportunity to understand what is happening to downtown. Currently there is a very large development being built named Victory which included several upscale residences, the American Airlines Center and w upscale hotels (W and Mandarin Oriental). This development will take Dallas into the future.

More Buildings

More downtown building architecture. This is the older side of town. They are currently working on developing the other side of town and will soon be the jewel of Texas.

Tile & Fountain

This Spanish style tile make a nice border to the stucco wall it sits on. This grotto is a nice place to sit and have a drink on a warm day.

Uptown Building reflection

I liked the shadow reflection in this uptown building. I like the contrast of the dark windows and the large Texas sky.

Centrum Clock Tower

This is the clock tower at an office building named the Centrum off of Oak Lawn Ave.

Inside the New W Hotel Dallas

I went to the new W Hotel in downtown Dallas this weekend. It was a little smaller than I had imagined but it was nice a new all around.

Lady Statue

This is an entry statue into a beauty salon in the Oak Lawn section of Dallas. There is actually an exact mirror image on the other side of the walking path.

Old vs. New

By looking at this picture which building would you say is older? The on is the foreground is brand spanking new. I am unsure what it will be used for but it has a prominent location overlooking Turtle Creek.

Mansion

This beautifully designed mansion sits along the main park and lake in Highland Park. It is a masterpiece that resembles something that you would see in France.

Crossing

A common site in Dallas are Rail Road Crossings. Since we are located in the middle of the US we are at the crossroads of the majority of the key RR routes.

60's Era Building

This beautiful turquoise building is the backdrop for this street light. I like old style building most of the time but I hope that they find the money to refurbish this one in the future.

The Shining

A great movie but not something that I would do a public wall mural of. Anyway, I guess for someone it is creative spark.

Gypsy Tea Room

This club is the site of many live music performances in Dallas. The majority of bands are smaller up and coming types but every once in a while they will land a headline title.

Grassy Knoll

This is the monument that sits at the top of the Grassy Knoll just above where JFK was assassinated. After watching the movie it makes you think while you walk this area.

Old Fashion Train Stop

A corner store at the local train stop looks like it belongs in middle America. This is the scene in most small towns throughout the Midwest.

Valet Anyone?

Are wondering why I picked this picture? It seems like every bar, restaurant, shopping center and health club in Dallas has Valet Parking. It's not because it is difficult to park but I think it is more of the convenience factor. Who knows.
