The Venice of DFW

Back when downtown Irving was at its infancy, the planners came up with an idea of making a sort of Venice like scape through the city. They built canals with commercial and residential space along them to stimulate life. Only 1 problem, the area had major difficulties following the .com boom and still has not recovered. It is a great idea and I hope that it does come back someday.

I think the canals have been pretty much unused since even before the dot com crash. In 1997/98 I lived in some apartments on Las Colinas blvd. that backed up to the canals and they weren't being used then either. It's a shame cause they do look really cool.
